New From Sarah Jane Cion!
A Baker’s Dozen: 13 Contemporary Jazz Etudes: Studies and Etudes for the Intermediate/Advanced (Paperback)
As a classically trained pianist turned jazz, I have always had a love of composition, and for creating melodies that are both singable and rhythmic. I also grew up playing and appreciating piano exercise books such as those presented by the great Cherny and Hannon. As I developed as an artist and took on more and more students, I thought to myself that it would be really fun to have some technically challenging jazz-style etudes—written out note for note—that would provide both a satisfying technical warm-up as well as a rewarding rhythmic experience for the intermediate to advanced classical pianist who has a curiosity towards improvisation and jazz. As a result, these 13 etudes were created to serve as a learning platform for exploration and creativity and a unique opportunity to master some elements present in the jazz arena.
“Sarah Cion, an extraordinary pianist, has given us a wonderful collection of Etudes that appeal to all music lovers, both classical and jazz teachers and students. They are pianistically well written for the hand and truly enjoyable to play and listen to. My students love them !” —Dianne Goolkasian Rahbee
